The importance of an accreditated coach

Is your child better off being taught by an accredited coach? The short answer is yes, but the reasons why are many. Here are just four of the reasons your child is better off at a gymnastics (or any other sporting) club that employs accredited coaches:

  1. Accredited coaches have formal training. Coaching accreditation courses are run throughout the year by Gymnastics Victoria where participants are given the tools and training to become coaches.
  2. Accredited coaches continue to learn. Coaches must continue to increase and refine their coaching knowledge to maintain their accreditation
  3. Accredited coaches teach skills correctly. Coaches with formal training have been shown the correct techniques to teach a skill.
  4. Accredited coaches have experience. Coaches need to have completed at least 20 hours of supervised coaching before they can become accredited.  This means they learn from a more experienced coach both teaching techniques and group management.

Our coaches hold a minimum of WAG Intermediate accreditation, but many of them hold higher accreditations.  Beginner coaches are directly supervised until they have completed 20 hours or more of assistant coaching, and then will be supervised either directly or indirectly. Find out more about our fantastic coaching team on our staff page!
